“Deluged with passion, silhouetting an array of expression, and influenced by the unknowing”
The focus of my ceramic work has been exploring the idea of making functional pottery non-functional. Inspired by the preconceived notion of a functional form while engaging in the creation of transitioning the original function into a purpose unexpected is what drives my ceramic explorations. Using wheel-thrown vessels a series of cuts, alterations, and surface treatments are executed throughout the individual pieces. Then concentrating on balance and rhythm I reconstruct each piece using only raw clay in an attempt to evoke the essence of one pure material. My intention is to involve the viewer in realms of tranquility, movement, and personal balance within a confined space.
My paintings have been concentrated on my environment, experimenting with a variety of materials, and associating a connection between my life and my work. Although I work with a wide variety of materials a distinct cohesiveness has emerged. The content of my deals with in depth experiences of life, with a sense of searching for something not yet defined. The human figure is often visible in my work, often capturing images from my own perspective as a narrative to capture a mood or sense of energy that is autobiographical. My work is considered a form of conceptual expressionism with an essence of experimentation. Experimenting not only with a chosen medium, but also with the use of color and how it conveys emotions encountered in everyday living.
